Fees and Funding

The Government are introducing new ways to help parents with childcare costs. Support available includes tax free childcare, universal credit, 2 year funding, 15 and 30 hour 3-4 year funding. Eligibility depends on your individual family circumstances. The Childcare Choices website will help you to calculate your best options.

15 and 30 hours free childcare for 3 and 4-year-olds

All 3 - 4 year-olds in England can get funding towards early education or childcare.

Some 2-year-olds are also eligible for 15 hours funded childcare, for example if you get certain benefits.

The funded early education and childcare:

  • must be with an approved childcare provider
  • stops when your child starts in reception class (or reaches compulsory school age, if later)

There are different schemes in ScotlandWales and Northern Ireland.

From September 2017 you may be eligible to receive extended hours funded childcare.

Working families with children aged three or four can now get 30 hours funded childcare a week. This is 570 extra hours a year – 1,140 hours in total.

If you’ve already registered, you can sign in to your childcare account.

Eligibility

You can usually get 30 hours funded childcare if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:

  • in work – or getting parental leave, sick leave or annual leave
  • each earning at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week – this is £125.28 if you’re over 25

This earnings limit doesn’t apply if you’re self-employed and started your business less than 12 months ago.

You’re not eligible if:

  • your child doesn’t usually live with you
  • the child is your foster child
  • either you or your partner has a taxable income over £100,000
  • you’re from outside the EEA and your UK residence card says you can’t access public funds
  • You can get 30 hours free childcare at the same time as claiming Universal Credit, tax credits or childcare vouchers.

Once you have applied online you will be given a 30 Hours Eligibility Code.
